Beekeepers Network of the Philippines 18th Annual Conference

Welcome Message

Congressman Jerry P. Treñas

I wish to extend my warmest welcome to the participants of the 18th Annual Conference and Techno-fora of the Beekeepers Network of the Philippines Foundation. The theme of this year’s conference is “Beekeeping for a Greener and Sustainable Philippines.”

The beekeepers of the Philippines can make a huge impact in sustainable growth and environment protection in the country. Beekeeping can greatly aid the efforts of enhancing biodiversity in the areas where bees are kept, especially in the rural communities. Agriculture will also benefit, as bees ensure pollination and improve crop yields. Bees are one of the most important insects in the transfer of pollens between flowers and between plants. A good number of crops and plant life are pollinated all over the world through bees.

Your selected theme for this year’s convention is therefore very appropriate, as biodiversity and sustainable development will be ensured through the proliferation of beekeeping activities in the Philippines. Pollination helps the ecosystem to remain diverse and sustainable, and it can lead to dramatic increases in fruit and vegetable yields.

Aside from the benefits to the environment and flora production of beekeeping, it is also a pleasurable source of income for enthusiasts who consider it as a relaxing and rewarding hobby. Bees produce honey, which has been used as one of the primary sweeteners by humans even before sugar canes were used. Numerous hive products such as royal jelly, pollens and beeswax can also be derived from beekeeping.

I highly encourage the members of the Beekeepers Network of the Philippines Foundation to expand their beekeeping activities in order to help the efforts of both the government and the private sector to create a greener environment, marked by biodiversity and sustainable development. Thank you very much and may you all have a pleasant and memorable time in Iloilo City.
