Quezon City – The House of Representatives passed on third and final reading two bills of Iloilo City Representative Jerry Treñas converting Iloilo City elementary schools into integrated schools. House Bills 3154 and 4261, converting the A. Bonifacio Elementary School and the Bakhaw Elementary School respectively into integrated schools, were passed by the House Plenary and will soon be transmitted for consideration in the Senate.
Quezon City – The House Committee on Banks and Financial Intermediaries approved House Bill No. 1662: The Anti-Hoarding of Philippine Legal Tender Coins Act of Iloilo City Representative Jerry Treñas. The Bill empowers the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas to go after syndicates engaged in large-scale coin hoarding. “It is a must for us to empower the Central Bank to abate this unscrupulous practice which is compromising the integrity of the Philippine Peso. We must not allow these people to sabotage our economy through the absence of a law penalizing the large –scale hoarding of coins,” said Treñas.
Quezon City – Representative Jerry Treñas of the lone district of Iloilo City wants to increase the tax exemption threshold for 13th month pay and other bonuses from the existing Php30,000 to Php75,000. In his House Bill 3670, Treñas seeks to increase the amount of tax exempt bonuses for all employees in both the private and public sector. It also mandates the Finance Department and the Bureau of Internal Revenue to increase the threshold every three years based on the consumer price index and inflation.
Quezon City – Congressman Jerry Treñas of Iloilo City believes that graphic picture warnings illustrating the harmful and fatal effects of smoking cigarettes should be included in all of the packages of tobacco products. Treñas filed House Bill 3715, which mandates all tobacco companies to include these picture warnings aside from the existing textual warning stating that cigarette smoking is dangerous to one’s health.
Quezon City – The House of Representatives Committee on Justice approved House Bill 2927 of Iloilo City Representative Jerry Treñas, which seeks to create five (5) new Regional Trial Courts (RTCs) in Iloilo City. “We should prioritize the creation of additional RTCs, especially in populous and highly urbanized cities such as Iloilo City, to ensure the speedy disposition of litigated cases,” said Treñas.
Congressman Jerry Trenas of the lone district of Iloilo City filed House Bill No. 3684 which seeks to provide free Philhealth coverage for all barangay officials and employees. The bill proposes for the inclusion of all barangay officials and employees under the National Insurance Health Program of the country and for the national government to pay for their premiums.
Quezon City – Iloilo City Solon Jerry Treñas filed House Bill 3114 which proposes to upgrade the minimum salary grade of public school teachers from Salary Grade 11 to Salary Grade 19. The legislative measure declares it a State policy to give paramount importance to the welfare of the public school teachers of the country, in furtherance of the policy of the State to give utmost priority to education.
A proposed bill seeking to mandate the installation of speed limiters on all public utility buses was filed in the House of Representatives by Iloilo City Representative Jerry Treñas. The Iloilo City Solon filed House Bill 3624, which mandates all bus companies with franchises to operate public utility buses in the Philippines, operating both city and provincial routes, to install speed limiters on all public utility buses, limiting the maximum speed to 60 kilometers per hour.
Manila – The Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA) is set to implement tourism projects for the improvement Jaro Plaza Complex, including the restoration of the Old Jaro Municipal Building and the repair and rehabilitation of the Jaro Belfry. The Jaro Plaza Complex was declared as part of the country’s cultural heritage zone through the approval of Republic Act No. 10555, the Iloilo City Tourism and Heritage Law authored by Iloilo City Representative Jerry Treñas.
The Western Visayas College of Science and Technology (WVCST) is now the newest state university in the region following the approval of ts conversion by the Senate during its third and final reading on February 4. The conversion grants the WVCST with the same powers and responsibilities as other state universities in Iloilo City, like the University of the Philippines and the West Visayas State University. With its passage into law, the WVCST will be renamed the Iloilo Science and Technology University or ISAT University. “This is the realization of our ream–to place WVCST in the status of a state university. This is our gift to every Ilonggo,” said Cong. Jerry P. Treñas. The Ilonggo solon introduced House Bill No. 4432, which proposed the conversion of WVCST into a state university. Earlier, Cong. Treñas emphasized that a university status is a distinctive honor reserved only for truly deserving higher education institutions that have proven excellence in instruction, research and outreach.
