House Approves Treñas Bill Increasing Manpower of West Visayas State University Medical Center

Quezon City – The House of Representatives last Tuesday approved House Bill House Bill 4989, which shall increase the number of plantilla positions for the West Visayas State University assigned to staff the West Visayas State University Medical Center in order to meet the standard staffing requirement for a 300-bed hospital. The bill, authored by Congressman Jerry Treñas of Iloilo City, was approved on third and final reading by the House and will be transmitted to the Senate.

“In order to adequately complement the hospital with a sufficient number of medical staff, it is necessary to increase the number of plantilla positions to allow the hospital to properly attend to the medical needs of its patients,” said Treñas. The standard staffing requirement for a 300-bed hospital such as the West Visayas State University Medical Center is 752 employees. Unfortunately, the hospital is currently limited to only 235 regular employees.

The approval of the bill increasing the manpower of the West Visayas State University Medical Center is the second legislative victory for Treñas last Tuesday. Earlier on that day, the Senate Committee on Education approved the bill of Treñas converting the Western Visayas College of Science and Technology into a State University.
