I wish to welcome the contestants, education supervisors and populations officers coming from all over the country to the 2012 National Pop Quiz and Festival of Talents. Iloilo City is proud to host this event, which is made possible through the efforts of the Department of Education and the Commission on Population.
This competition is a perfect opportunity for our Secondary School students to exhibit their skills in essay writing, poster making, jingle writing and singing. The on the spot contests in the event will challenge the contestants, as they must muster their artistic and intellectual skills in order to impress the judges and their fellow competitors. The event will definitely showcase the spectacular talents of our youth, while maintaining a fun and “pop” theme throughout the competition.
While inter-school and regional competitions are usually limited to academic or athletic contests, the innovative National Pop Quiz and Festival of Talents event is an excellent alternative which fosters the development of the artistic talents of our youth. I am pleased that the Department of Education and the Commission on Population are pioneering this impressive competition, which will definitely challenge our High School students to become more articulate, artistic and confident.
The event will also allow the student participants hailing from 18 different Regions all over the country to bond with their fellow students from other parts of the country and build bridges with new acquaintances from different parts of the archipelago.
Thank you very much for allowing Iloilo City to host the 2012 National Pop Quiz and Festival of Talents. May your all have a wonderful and memorable stay in Iloilo City.
