Congressman Jerry P. Treñas
In celebration of the National Shelter Month, the Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council (HUDCC)-Region VI and the United Architects of the Philippines (UAP)- C4 District have organized this month’s Western Visayas Housing Fair 2011. The theme of this year’s fair is “Gaganda ang Buhay sa Sariling Bahay.”
October was declared as the National Shelter Month in 1995 by virtue of Presidential Proclamation No. 662. National Shelter Month is celebrated in recognition of housing’s vital importance to the over-all development of the country and the enhancement of the social, economic and spiritual well-being of the Filipino People. World Habitat Day is also celebrated yearly by the global community on the first Monday of October.
The Western Visayas Housing Fair supports the goal of the HUDCC to facilitate access to a variety of housing options that are decent, affordable and responsive to the diverse and changing needs of homeless and underprivileged Filipino families. The HUDCC is closely coordinating with the United Architects of the Philippines and other concerned government agencies and NGOs in order to provide adequate shelter to all Filipinos.
I salute the HUDCC and its Region VI Regional Coordinator, Ms. Eva Maria Marfil, for organizing the 2011 Western Visayas Housing Fair. May you continue to work hard to ensure access to affordable housing units for all Filipino families.
